The Lakota frame is a bold and powerful expression of craftsmanship and culture. Made from premium custom acetate, it features a strong and confident silhouette enhanced by unique rivet details on the front. Designed for all-day comfort, its spring hinges ensure a perfect fit for everyday wear.
Available in two sophisticated color options:
- Gloss black for a classic, polished look
- Striated brown with hints of blue and crystal for a bold, contemporary edge
This frame is adorned with Jim Yellowhawk's intricate warrior design, paying homage to the courage, strength, and leadership of Lakota warriors. The artistry is deeply rooted in the tradition of Plains Indian ledger art, a narrative form that thrived from the 1860s to the 1920s and experienced a revival in the 1960s.
Ledger art tells stories and expresses cultural identity through drawings and paintings on cloth or paper. Its name originates from the accounting ledger books that Plains Indians repurposed as canvases in the late 19th century. If you look closely at the temple artwork, you’ll notice details from old ledgers in the background—subtle lines and numbers that echo the distinctive medium that brought these stories to life.
The Lakota frame is more than just eyewear—it’s a statement piece that bridges tradition and modernity, honoring the enduring spirit of Indigenous art while making a bold style statement.
Every pair of optical frames comes with an embossed hard case and microfiber cleaning cloth.
Partial proceeds from the sale of all AYA eyewear and accessory items are donated to communities in need.
